He’s back to save America (and the world) once more; this time from the Winter Soldier. Who is this epic hero? Obviously, the one and only Captain America. Who else? Directed by brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, the Marvel sequel Captain America: The Winter Soldier premieres today! Before you run to the theaters tonight, check out this sneak peek of the action drawn by our very talented artist, Anthony Liberatore.
Anthony also shared with us some of his experiences while working on the film.
“The Russo Bros. have really taken the Captain franchise to a whole new level. They had a very clear and confident vision of what they wanted. But that’s not to say they weren’t open to letting me present them with ideas that would/may have arisen in the boarding process. I was able to contribute solutions to some of the story problems. For example the Russo Bros. wanted to reveal the Falcon, played by Anthony Mackie, in a very dynamic way and tasked me with coming up with that. I think it turned out pretty cool. But, you can judge for yourself!!!”
“Working with Marvel and the Russo Bros. was a great experience. Being given the opportunity to participate in the rich history of Captain America was especially exciting for me, as I’m a big comic book nerd.”
“I was storyboarding for every phase of production. Obviously, 1st unit photography needed boards which were then turned into animatics. The 2nd unit required lots of boards for the stunts. The Nick Fury chase scene was probably the most extensive scene I had the opportunity to work on. VFX boards were also needed for the c.g. elements that would be placed in the film in post production.”
But he wasn’t alone. “There were three other very talented board artists working on Capt 2. Every board artist was a hundred percent digital and we were cranking out between 35 to 60 frames a day on average.”
“This is the best film yet in the Marvel/Captain America franchise. And it’s only going to get better! So, go see it!” -Anthony Liberatore
