Argo and the Necessity of Storyboards

Not only do Storyboards help sell your pitch, they can also serve as an integral part of a blockbuster hit. We love the use of storyboards in Argo, almost as much as we love the phrase “Argo F*$% yourself.” But truthfully, the creators of the film have had a long love affair with storyboards that carried them all the way to the box office.

It all started with Joshuah Bearman, who penned “The Great Escape”, a story of CIA agent Tony Mendez for Wired Magazine in 2007. Wired then reached out to us to find the right artist to illustrate the boards. Take a look at the original work that was included in the Wired article by our artist, Tim Burgard.

The article caught the eye of Hollywood, specifically intriguing Ben Affleck, who directed and starred in the film. Prologue Pictures tasked our artists, Anthony Liberatore and Julie Liggins, with the illustrations for the opening sequence of the film. Their art transitions into historical photos from the period and pays homage to the legendary comic artist, Jack Kirby, who created the original boards used during the CIA rescue mission.
